Happy new year to all!
2016 comes with much excitement and anticipation for the GSR team and its supporters.
GSR Team Update
As we write this update our team just wrapped up the Miami Skiff Mid-Winter regatta which went from this past Saturday the 16th through the 18th.
There were 30 NACRA 17’s, all of whom are racing in the ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami, participating in this “pre-worlds” event. Our team ended the regatta in 5th place and were the 1st American team in the standings. Here is a link to the results: www.regattanetwork.com/event/11485#_newsroom.
All very encouraging for the main event, starting Saturday!!
We have experienced some difficult challenges in the past few weeks of training. Solvig has been fighting a chronic shoulder injury since September. Despite many rounds of physical therapy, prescribed medication and a cortisone shot for the pain, the shoulder is sapping her strength and ability to perform at her usual high level.
The very tough decision was made last week to enlist another crew and to have Solvig sit out these upcoming trials. She remains in Miami as a key part of the GSR team and will participate in a coaching/support role while focusing on the rehabilitation of her shoulder. Bora continues to train with an experienced crew, Louisa Chafee. They competed together this weekend in the regatta mentioned earlier with outstanding results and will sail in the ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami starting on the 23rd.
This turn of events is understandably very disappointing for Solvig and we know you join us in wishing her a speedy recovery.
We continue to feel confident moving forward given Bora and Louisa’s results this weekend against some very stiff competition. They are fast, smart, strong, and determined… a winning combination.
Thank you for your continued support and look for regular updates from us during the week of the trials from Miami next week!
